Bonsai pots

The literal translation of Bonsai is tree in pot. So bonsai is kept in a pot or dish. There are many different types of bowls / pots in many shapes, sizes and colors, but also different qualities. There are Chinese production trays / pots, these are made by machine, or Japanese hand-made trays / pots. There are even very special bowls / pots that are made and embellished by artists. These trays / pots can be painted, or a motif or shape can be applied by means of special techniques. Most bowls / pots are made from clay. Good trays / pots are baked several times at an increasingly higher temperature. It is important that the bowl / pot itself does not absorb water, otherwise it could freeze. A good hardy dish / pot is baked at 1240 degrees Celsius.

Bonsai Plaza's bonsai pots are generally unique pieces, Japanese and handmade. Only a few of our pots are not unique or handmade in Japan.

Are you in doubt which pot fits your tree best or would you like us to help you pick the perfect pot? Please do not hesitate to bring your own tree along to our nursery, no matter where you found or bought it. We'd love to welcome you to physically browse through our pot collection, either by yourself or with help from Maarten, Bob, Ron or Marcel.
