The Suiseki (水石) or waterstone is a relatively small, decorative stone known in the Japanese tradition for its beauty. When put on display together, the shape and color of these stones complement the aesthetic of the bonsai. Suiseki have been naturally polished and shaped by water. To classify as an authentic Suiseki the stone must have a certain outstanding quality, such as expressive shape, color or texture. Many Suiseki will look like a landscape or object, for example an island or hut.
