Traditionally, so-called "hanging scrolls" are used as decoration in Japan. They often hang on the back wall of a bonsai arrangement or other decorative arrangement in a tokoma or a niche in a Japanese room. These Tanzaku are small masterpieces based on Japanese ink and brush paint to further accentuate the Japanese atmosphere and craftsmanship. The tanzaku have the traditional size of about 3 by 23.5 centimeters or 6 by 36 centimeters to fit in an original "Tanzaku or Tanzaku-gake".
